It’s highly recommended that you use a lotion with at least SPF 15, although anything higher is much better for your skin. Not many people know that you are able to tan while wearing protection, although it won’t be as effective, but it will keep your skin safe.

A misconception regarding after sun lotion is that it is only used to soothe sunburn. While it does help with this, it’s also great to nourish the skin after sun exposure, which helps to prolong your tan by keeping the area hydrated, which increases absorption. Additionally, after sun can help prevent peeling of the skin and make it look smoother and fresher.

Fake It

Whether you want to give your tan a kick start or simply fake it to avoid the skin damage, fake tan products is the perfect way to go. Apply it before you are due to go on holiday and allow your natural tan to slowly build over your sun protector for a lasting glow, remembering to exfoliate the skin and moisturise before application.
